How to Play

How a Round Works

Teen Patti uses a standard 52-card deck. At the start of each round, the dealer gives every player three cards — the remaining cards stay in the deck. Before play begins, everyone must place a mandatory bet (Boot amount) into the pot. After receiving cards, each player takes turns placing a bet or folding. A player may play without looking at their cards — this is called playing "Blind"; playing after looking at the cards is called "Chaal" or Seen. A Blind player can choose to look at their cards at any point, but once they have looked, they cannot go back to Blind.

If two players wish to face each other directly, one can call a Showdown — the two hands are then compared and the player with the weaker hand leaves the table. At the end of the round, the player who remains at the table or shows the highest-ranked hand in a Showdown wins the entire pot.

Hand Rankings and Scores

There are five main hand categories in Teen Patti, ordered from strongest to weakest — though even a weak hand can win with the right approach.

Rank Hand Name Description Example
1 Trio / Set Three cards of the same value A-A-A, K-K-K
2 Pure Sequence Three consecutive cards of the same suit 5♠-6♠-7♠
3 Sequence / Run Three consecutive cards of different suits J♥-Q♠-K♦
4 Color / Flush Three cards of the same suit, but not in sequence 2♣-7♣-J♣
5 Pair Two cards of the same value Q-Q-4
6 High Card No combination; the highest card counts A-8-3

When two players' hands fall in the same category, the winner is decided by card value. Ace (A) is the highest and 2 is the lowest — however, A-2-3 counts as a special sequence.

Who Are You Playing Against?

The dealer is not your opponent — the other players are

stake bd Teen Patti live table competition

Many people assume you play against the dealer in Teen Patti, but that is not the case. Traditional Teen Patti is a multiplayer game — you bet against other people sitting at the table. The dealer's role is simply to distribute cards and track the pot.

When you sit at a live table on stake bd, you face multiple opponents at the same time. Trying to figure out whether someone is bluffing or playing Blind is what makes the game interesting.

However, some online variants (such as Teen Patti Joker or Teen Patti 20-20) may have slightly different rules where your hand is also compared against the dealer's. You will find these variants in the stake bd casino section.

Practical Tips for Beginners

  • Start with small bets
For the first few rounds, use a low Boot amount to understand how the table plays. Jumping into large bets quickly is a common mistake for new players.
  • Understand what playing Blind means
Playing without looking at your cards keeps opponents uncertain. It is a strategy, not a habit — you should not stay Blind every round.
  • Watch your opponents' patterns
Is someone raising quickly every time? Does someone always take a long time to look? This information comes in useful in later rounds.
  • Know when to fold
With a weak hand, folding quickly is the sensible move. The mindset of "I've already put money in, so I'll stay" tends to cause more losses.
  • Set a budget in advance
Decide how much you will bring to the table before each session. If you reach your limit, take a break for the day.
  • Practice with JILI's Teen Patti Joker
This variant introduces the core concepts of Teen Patti in a relatively simple format. A good starting point for new players.

Play Responsibly

Teen Patti is for entertainment. Winning and losing are both part of the game. Never chase losses by placing large bets in a rush to recover money.

A Variety of Game Styles

Popular Variants of Teen Patti

Several variants have been built on the foundation of standard Teen Patti. Each has slight differences in rules that add variety to the game.

Teen Patti Joker

JILI

Joker cards are added to the deck. A Joker can replace any card, which increases the chance of building unexpected hands. This is one of the more recognised variants at stake bd.

Teen Patti 20-20

JILI

In this variant, both the dealer and the player receive three cards. The player decides whether their hand is better than the dealer's. Its straightforward format makes it popular among new players.

Muflis

Classic

The reverse of standard Teen Patti — here, the weakest hand wins. A High Card is equivalent to a Trio in this variant. A great opportunity to mislead your opponents.

Best of Four

Classic

Each player receives four cards and selects three to form their best hand. The extra card creates significantly more room for strategy.

Lowest Joker

Classic

The lowest-value face-up card in the deck becomes the Joker. Since the Joker changes every round, the game takes a different shape each time.

Akbar Ahmed Anthony

Classic

In this variant, the A, K, and J cards act as Jokers. Having three special cards increases the chances of building a strong hand considerably.

Good Practice

Table Etiquette and Session Management

Teen Patti is a social game — your behaviour affects the experience of others. Even when playing online, some basic etiquette is worth following.

Make decisions on time: Each round has a timer. Place your bet or fold within the time allowed without unnecessary delay. Keeping other players waiting reduces everyone's experience.

Stay composed after winning: Excessive celebration after a big win is considered poor form. Similarly, avoid showing frustration towards others after a loss.

Manage the length of your sessions: Playing very long sessions without a break lowers the quality of your decisions. Taking a short break every hour is sensible — it keeps your focus sharp.

Avoid trying to recover losses: Raising bets after several losing rounds is a common trap. It is better to take a break at that point. stake bd's responsible gaming guidelines cover this topic in detail.

If you feel a session is not going well today, there is no hesitation needed in leaving the table. Coming back the next day with fresh focus is always the better option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Teen Patti Questions and Answers

When playing Blind, your bet amount is half of what Seen players put in, so you stay in the pot at lower cost. More importantly, it creates psychological pressure — your opponents cannot tell whether your hand is strong or weak, leaving them uncertain about their decisions. That said, playing Blind continuously is strategically weak — experienced opponents will recognise it as a fixed habit.

To call a Showdown, both players must be playing Seen. Generally, it makes sense to call a Showdown when the pot has grown large and your hand feels reasonably strong. Calling a Showdown with a very weak hand carries the risk of a certain loss. Remember — if you lose a Showdown, you leave the table, so it is a final decision.

Trio is the highest hand in Teen Patti, so it carries a very strong chance of winning in most situations. However, calling it "guaranteed" is difficult — your opponent could also hold a Trio, in which case the card value decides the winner (for example, A-A-A beats K-K-K). When you get a Trio, gradually building the pot is a good strategy — many players raise quickly to force opponents to fold, which keeps the pot smaller than it could be.

In standard Teen Patti, you work with whatever cards you are dealt from a 52-card deck. In the Teen Patti Joker variant, one or two Joker cards are added to the deck, each of which can substitute for any card. This creates opportunities to complete an incomplete sequence or elevate a pair to a higher rank. Bluffing strategy also differs somewhat, since opponents know there is a possibility of building a hand using the Joker.

Bluffing is an important part of Teen Patti, but its effectiveness depends on the situation. With fewer players at the table, bluffing works better because you need to convince fewer people. Against experienced opponents, repeating the same type of bluff makes it easy to get caught. For a bluff to succeed, your behaviour in previous rounds needs to have been consistent — not sudden large bets, but a believable pattern built over time.
